Prof Leonard Lee, IPUR Director, was recently invited to deliver keynote addresses at two conferences: the “AI and Social Science Research” conference (co-organised by the Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the National University of Singapore, and held in Singapore from 26-28 March 2026) and the 2026 Annual Asia-Pacific Marketing Academy conference (held in China from 5-8 June 2026). At both events, he presented on “The Emotional Dynamics of AI Adoption.”
His talks explored the diverse emotions AI and AI-enabled systems can evoke, and how these emotions shape public attitudes, trust, and behaviour. He also examined the promise and risks of AI in addressing pressing societal challenges, including mis- and disinformation, loneliness and mental health, and population ageing.
Prof Lee emphasised that understanding the emotional dynamics of AI adoption is key to fostering more effective use of AI, while also guiding the development of systems that are more human-centred, responsive, and socially attuned.
