Using art to reframe the way we communicate risk and data

17 November 2022

In collaboration with the Lloyd’s Register Foundation and ArtScience Museum, IPUR organised the inaugural Art/Science Symposium bringing together world-leading experts to share their perspectives on creative communications in the sciences and engineering. Held on 16 November 2022, the hybrid event featured themes of science, risk, fragility, beauty and imagination.

The symposium was aimed at practitioners involved in communicating science and data through art and brought together a broad community of people from different disciplines, sectors, and perspectives to share their experiences, learning, and ideas. Participants included artists, designers, scientists, communicators, and public engagement professionals from around the world.

Some speakers at the event included:

  • Honor Harger, Vice President, Attractions and ArtScience Museum, Singapore
  • Tit Meng Lim PhD, Chief Executive, Science Centre Singapore, Associate Professor, National University Singapore
  • Ed Lewis, Superflux
  • Pablo Suarez, Artist-in-Residence, LRF Institute for the Public Understanding of Risk, National University of Singapore (NUS)
  • Matt Leacock, Game Designer
  • Ong Kian Peng, Experimental Artist and Designer

One popular highlight of the event was the guided tour “MENTAL: Colours of Wellbeing”. The exhibition featured 24 interactive exhibits, art projects and large-scale installations by international artists, makers, scientists and designers that reflect a range of perspectives on mental health and ways of being.
