Cees de Bont was trained in psychology, and specialized in economic psychology, at Tilburg University and conducted PhD research in design at the Delft University of Technology.

He worked for Philips Design and for Philips Domestic Appliances and Personal Care between 1995 and 2005.

Between 2005 and 2024, Cees was the dean of design schools in Delft, Hong Kong and Loughborough. Among other things, Cees strengthened research, developed curricula, worked on product-service systems and social design and merged design and creative arts.

Since August 2024, Cees is heading the Division of Industrial Design at the National University of Singapore. Cees has a special interest in inclusive design with a focus on the aging population as well as in the psychological underpinnings of design for healthy living.

Cees has authored and co-authored publications in a wide variety of journals, such as: Design Studies, Design Issues, International Journal of Design, The Design Journal, Sheji: Journal of Design, Economics, and Innovation, Journal of Economic Psychology and Journal of Product Innovation Management.
