Risk experts and practitioners are getting together to establish a new network, Joining Forces, to share knowledge and experience in communicating risk to the public and decision-makers.
The inaugural meeting will take place at the upcoming European Safety and Reliability (ESREL) and Society for Risk Analysis Europe (SRA-E) 2025 conference in Stavanger, Norway, from 15-19 June. Participants will be invited to share what they can bring and what they would like to get from the risk communication network.
Joining Forces is open to all individuals and organisations passionate about improving how risk is communicated globally. The secretariat is calling on members not just to participate, but to set the agenda – helping to identify priorities and drive initiatives such as a dedicated conference for both academically-minded practitioners and practically-minded academics to exchange best practices in communicating risk.
Joining Forces is an initiative by the IPUR, the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (Cambridge, UK) and Sense about Science (London, UK). It links to and builds on the global Risk know-how initiative, an ongoing collaboration between Sense About Science and IPUR to build risk know-how, supporting frontline risk communicators, funded by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation.
The network is being convened by Olivia Jensen (IPUR), Lara Mani (CERS) and David Reid (LRF) – please get in touch if you would like to be part of the network and help shape plans for the coming year.
