A team from IPUR travelled to London in May to attend the LRF Safer World Conference from May 10-11 2022. For some of us, it had been the first time travelling abroad since the pandemic struck Singapore’s shores.

As such, the visit also provided a perfect opportunity to rekindle relationships with collaborators and organisations driven by similar goals and objectives as the institute.

During the conference, IPUR organised a risk blindspots exhibit using Jenga. People were invited to answer the question: “Which of these risks do you think the people tend to under-estimate the most, or pay little attention to?” Participants had to select pick a coloured Jenga block corresponding to their answer and drop it through a hole.

IPUR also submitted an academic poster as part of the Lloyd Register Foundation exhibit along with two impact videos that used data from the 2019 World Risk Poll.

To top it all off, Dr Olivia Jensen, IPUR Lead Scientist (Environment and Climate) was part of the closing panel discussion titled “What should we expect of organisations providing data and information on risk?”. She was joined by fellow panellists:

Nathaniel Tan, IPUR Senior Manager, interacting with an attendee at the conference.
Prof Leonard Lee, IPUR Deputy Director, offering a suggestion on how to tackle the Jenga block.
