Inaugural Workshop on the Social Science of the Protein Transition
Co-hosted by the Bezos Centre for Sustainable Protein and the Institute for Public Understanding of Risk at the National University of Singapore, this half-day event brings researchers and experts to present and explore the future of alternative proteins.
The keynote speaker is Dr Michael Siegrist, Professor in Consumer Behavior at the Institute for Environmental Decisions (IED), ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Dr Siegrist’s keynote “Barriers and challenges to shifting from animal-based to plant-based diets” will outline some of the challenges and barriers that need to be overcome before alternative proteins can play a significant role in people’s diets. Using data from recent studies on consumer perceptions of different plant protein sources, he will discuss the implications for the development of novel meat substitutes and outline the expected impact of various policies to initiate a transition from animal to more plant-based protein intakes.
Other presentation which will be discussed include public discourse around alternative proteins, education on sustainable food choices and the role of self-efficacy in protein transition.
