Climate Risk Workshop: Understanding. Reporting. Impacting.

This workshop aims to deepen participants’ understanding of climate risk perceptions and enhance their capacity for effective climate risk communication. Through interactive discussions and expert-led presentations, attendees will explore the key drivers behind public perceptions of climate risk and why these views matter in driving individual action and influencing policy. The workshop will also highlight the importance of tailoring communication initiatives to resonate with diverse audiences, thereby fostering greater awareness and informed decision-making.

In addition, the workshop will provide practical guidance on best practices and frameworks in climate risk reporting, offering insights into how reporting has evolved to maintain relevance and impact. Participants will learn strategies to build trust, cut through information overload, and deliver key messages effectively. The session concludes with a discussion tackling the main challenges in climate risk communication and exploring ways to make reporting more impactful, equipping attendees with actionable knowledge and resources to advance climate risk awareness in their own spheres.

More about the speakers

Amy Sim

Amy is Asia-Pacific Regional Manager for environmental programmes at Internews. There, she leads the Earth Journalism Network (EJN) programme supporting local journalists and media across the region to report on climate change, biodiversity loss, oceans and One Health, among other environmental themes. Prior to joining Internews, she worked at the World Bank on information outreach, community-driven development and local governance in Indonesia, and also previously at the London-based ARTICLE 19. In her free time, Amy writes a column for Singapore’s Chinese daily, Lianhe Zaobao, an endeavor she started back in her days there as a journalist.

Paritta Wangkiat

Paritta is an award-winning journalist and an editor with over a decade of experience covering the environment, health, and human rights. As Editor-in-Chief of Mekong Eye, she leads cross-border collaborations with local journalists, mentoring them to produce impactful stories that amplify underreported issues. She also serves as Mekong Program Officer at Earth Journalism Network, where she supports local journalists in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam to strengthen climate and environmental reporting.

Olivia Jensen

Dr Olivia Jensen is a social scientist specialising in water and environmental policy with a focus on urban Asia. She joined IPUR in 2018 as Lead Scientist overseeing the Institute’s work related to Environment and Climate and was appointed Deputy Director in 2023. Before joining IPUR, she was a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Water Policy at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (NUS).

Olivia’s research is concerned with the spectrum of urban environmental risks and the design and evaluation of policy interventions to strengthen the resilience of urban communities. At IPUR, she partners with government agencies and international organisations to develop and deliver policy-relevant research.
